Vision & Objectives

Geotourism is tourism that sustains or enhances the geographic character of a place, its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well being of its residents.

Vision
Shaped over centuries by its unique geographical setting between the St. Lawrence River and its Lachine Rapids and the Mont-Royal into a living and dynamic urban ensemble, the central area of Montreal bears witness to one of the great endeavours and the common history of North America, from First Nations to the French settlement of Ville-Marie and its role in the exploration of the Continent, the British and Modern periods that created the industrial metropolis and lead to the cosmopolitan city of world repute it has become.

The Montreal Geotouristic Destination vision is to ensure through concerted efforts and innovation that this endeavour and the physical and cultural evidence of it present in the city and its central neighbourhoods’ heritage are respected, understood and presented to enhance the sense of citizen belonging, collective responsibility and visitors experience with a concept of sustainable urban and tourism development.

Goals
∙ Engage, motivate and coordinate stakeholders, programmes, authorities
∙ Preserve, present and enrich the collective heritage
∙ Demonstrate leadership locally and globally
